GLENARA CRYSTAL
the story of a mare who proves that bravery isn’t about never being scared — it’s about jumping anyway.
Meet Piper… or Pipey, depending on the day — known in the arena as Glenara Crystal.
Standing at an impressive 17.2hh, this brown Warmblood mare was bred at Glenara Park by Melissa Froesch, and she is by the world-class sire Emerald, out of Glenara Lady Bollinger, with Conquistador appearing as her dam sire. It’s a pedigree stacked with scope, power and serious jumping credentials — and Piper absolutely delivers on that promise.
Owned by King Ranch Equestrian and partnered by Anneliese Wansey, Piper was purchased as a 3-year-old from Glenara Park and has been produced carefully from the very beginning. Anneliese has been with her every step of the way, with valuable support from Josh Collins during Piper’s early years — particularly through that crucial 5- and 6-year-old phase.
In the ring, Piper is all business. She’s bold, scopey and powerful — with more jump than just about anything Anneliese has ever ridden. Off the track? Well… that’s a different story.
Despite being the sweetest horse in the barn, Piper is convinced that the world outside the showjumping ring is deeply suspicious. New things? No thanks. New people? Even worse. She firmly believes she is too tall to fit anywhere and spends a surprising amount of time looking up — especially at aeroplanes. Those flying over at SJA? Absolutely not to be trusted.
And yet, once the bell rings, Piper switches on.
One of her most memorable moments came at the 2025 Easter Show, where she surprised everyone with just how well she handled the atmosphere — proving that confidence is coming, and fast. She also added a strong 6th place in the Stonewall Grand Prix, continuing to show her consistency and class at top level.
What makes Piper truly special is that she keeps things interesting. She likes to change things up — you never quite know which version of Piper you’re getting when you catch her from the paddock. Some days she’s extra spicy, some days extra careful, but she always keeps her rider alert, focused and engaged. It’s the kind of personality that makes great horses — and great partnerships.
She has excellent taste too: licorice and carrots are her clear favourites.
Looking ahead, the goals are big. Piper is expected to start her first World Cup season this year, and with her scope and raw ability, the long-term vision is very clear. Once confidence at that level settles in, she looks every bit a mare built for the international circuit.
Glenara Crystal — sweet, suspicious, seriously talented — Piper, you keep us guessing, keep us laughing, and keep us believing there’s something very special still to come. We can’t wait to see you take on the next challenge and shine at the GDP Classic.
