OAKS CONSTANTINO
If there’s one thing THIS horse is good at—aside from jumping massive fences and making his rider’s job both exhilarating and mildly terrifying—it’s melting hearts, Well his rider Tilley’s has certainly been melted. THIS IS the story of Oaks Constantino affectionately known as “Stan”.
Bred by Alice Cameron at Oaks Sport Horses, Stan was never meant to be average. His sire, Contendro I, is a legend in modern showjumping, producing Grand Prix champions left, right, and center. With impeccable technique and a sharp mind, his offspring are known for being both talented and, let’s just say, “full of personality.” Stan is no exception. His dam, Oaks Cinderella carries Nimmerdor and Cento in her lineage for those who don’t know Cento was one of the most successful competitor stallions by Capitol and is known for producing horses that were careful, they do take time to produce which means they will jump for longer in their careers. All that great breeding is what has contributed the grit and resilience needed to handle the pressures of top-level competition—plus, let’s be honest, the ability to keep up with his own antics.
From an early age, Stan made it clear that he was going places—literally and figuratively. At Oaks Sport Horses, he quickly became known for his playful freindship with another horse, Emma. And how cute was Emma? She is the small Shetland who, despite her size, had no problem keeping Stan on his toes. Their interactions often involved a mix of harmless mischief and unspoken competitions over who could be the center of attention. Even as a foal, he had that look—the one that said, "I may be small now, but give me time."
Stan’s journey took an unexpected turn when he was purchased in 2021 for Tori Fair. Initially meant for Tori, Stan became Tilley Fair’s ride when her sister decided to step back from competition. Since then, Stan has skyrocketed from junior classes to young riders and finally to jumping his first World Cup qualifier at Jumping With The Stars in 2024—an unforgettable milestone in their partnership.
Some of his biggest achievements include:
• 3rd place in the Prince of Wales Cup at Melbourne Royal
• 3rd place in the Adelaide Royal Championship Grand Prix
• 3rd overall in the Australian Young Rider Championships
• Successfully competed in his first World Cup qualifier at Jumping With The Stars 2024
As a young horse, Stan was trained by some of the best, including Alison Rowland, Rod McQueen, Jess Brown, and Matt Williams. However, since being owned by the Fair family, only Tori and Tilley have ridden him, with Tilley taking him to the highest levels under the guidance of Brooke Hickey. While Brooke hasn’t directly trained Stan, she has shaped their partnership, guiding them from juniors to World Cup level and always having a game plan for Stan’s occasional "artistic interpretations" of courses.
Despite his competitive nature, Stan is a quirky character with some strong opinions. For instance, he is convinced that bubbles in the wash bay are monsters—he trembles in the corner at just the sight of them. He also refuses to be the last horse left outside at night and is an expert at escape if his stable door isn’t properly secured. In fact, the Fair family now has cameras just to catch him in the act! When it comes to treats, liquorice is his ultimate weakness, and if you don’t have a carrot when trying to catch him, forget it—he’ll wait until you do.
Tilley and Stan have built an incredible bond, one founded on trust, persistence, and a whole lot of patience. While their journey has already exceeded expectations, the dream doesn’t stop here. The goal? To win a World Cup. Along the way, they aim for consistency at the bigger heights and more podium finishes in prestigious events. In the immediate future, they are gearing up for another World Cup qualifier at Jumping With The Stars.
Thanks to sponsorships from Saddleworld Shepparton & Bendigo, Petcover Australia, and Johnson’s Natural Formula, Stan is equipped with everything he needs to perform at his best. His Prestige saddle, custom-fitted thanks to his sponsors, ensures he stays comfortable and powerful in the ring.
Stan’s story is one of unexpected partnerships, unwavering determination, and just the right amount of mischief. He might be a bit of a scaredy cat, a treat thief, and an occasional escape artist, but when he steps into the arena, he’s all heart. The road ahead is bright, and one thing is for sure—Stan is only just getting started.
