TEXAS
this is a story of a horse many of you already know — but whose journey continues to get better with every season. Tonight, we celebrate the horse simply known as Texas.
Texas is by Calgary GNZ and out of the much-loved mare RR Triple X, imported from Waitangi Sporthorses in New Zealand. True to form, Texas keeps things uncomplicated — his paddock name is simply Texas.
Now owned by King Ranch Equestrian and partnered by Anneliese Wansey, Texas has developed into a genuine Grand Prix horse. His early years are a credit to his breeder, River Ridge Equestrian (the Martin family), and to Sarah McMillan, who purchased him as a yearling and carefully produced him through his formative seasons. That history makes this Grand Prix especially meaningful, with both rider and producer competing at the same event.
Born in 2013 as RR Callexo (Rex), his name was changed to Texas when he moved to Sarah — part of her tradition of naming horses after places. Since then, Texas has certainly lived up to the name.
His sire Calgary GNZ brings us to one of the most influential bloodlines in modern showjumping. Calgary is by the legendary Casall ASK, whose impact on the sport spans World Cup Finals, Global Champions Tour victories and Olympic Games appearances. Casall’s legacy continues to shape showjumping across the world.
Away from the big fences, Texas has plenty of personality. He loves to smile (sometimes helped along by licorice), firmly believes he should be first in for dinner, and — despite being the quietest horse Anneliese has owned — will occasionally launch all four feet off the ground just to keep everyone honest. In his first week home, he even jumped out of his paddock, making his scope clear before he ever entered the arena.
Anneliese and Texas continue to build their partnership, highlighted by their Chatham Park Futurity Final win at the Waratah World Cup and strong performances into 2025.
From dazzling foal to striking Grand Prix gelding, Texas continues to shine — and we can’t wait to see him step out once again at the GDP Classic, in the Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix.
