COCAINE EGO Z

He’s tall, dark and handsome and in his mother’s eyes he is “Mr. Perfect”. Tonight, we tell story of another superstar who is the apple of his family’s eye. His name IS COCAINE EGO Z AND he is partnered with Jennifer Wood.

Foaled in 2009 and bred by Linda Mayer, 𝐋𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐲 as he is known around the stables is a 16.1hh brown stallion by Cracky Z out of Ama Ego Z. A Zangershide registered stallion his attitude, trainability, scope, power and faultless confirmation are attributes Leroy passes on to his progeny (and that’s before mentioning the international pedigree)!

With that said, let’s get into the pedigree! Leroy’s sire Cracky Z goes back to the famous Caretino. Caretino had an impressive career under saddle with numerous young horse class wins demonstrating his outstanding technique over a fence. Bo Kristoffersen took up the ride and competed Caretino at Grand Prix and Nations Cup level before shortly after a move to Ludger Beerbaum’s stable he was returned to Holstein for use at stud. This is where his talents really shone. Caretino’s lineage continues to remain hugely influential in modern breeding. With over 50 licensed sons such as Casall who have gone on to have hugely influential careers in both sport and breeding themselves, Caretino blood is a desirable asset in a modern jumping horse.

Okay, now back to Leroy!

It wasn’t exactly love at first sight between rider Jennifer Wood and Leroy. After her husband purchased him as a two year old colt, Jennifer tells us “we almost got divorced because the smallest, tiniest colt got off the float that he (her husband) had picked”. As Jennifer admits, her first impression of the tiny little brown colt was “very wrong”.

Jennifer and Leroy have an exceptional partnership. Having owned Leroy for the past twelve years, they have developed a deep love for one another and are fantastic teammates. Jennifer credits Leroy for keeping her in the saddle over bigger tracks after having two children, “he is one of a kind, the most reliable consistent horse I could ever ask for”.

In Jennifer’s eyes, Leroy truly is Mr. Perfect. Leroy loves nothing more than cuddles from his smallest human children who love him just as much as he loves them. He loves carrots and scratches and impressing the ladies who walk past with his ‘fancy pony stallion trot’. He never does anything wrong and is the kindest, most gentle horse and a stallion at that!

There are a few things Leroy doesn’t like, however. One being escapees. When someone escapes during the night Leroy screams at the top of his lungs to let his humans know that someone is not where they are supposed to be. As Jennifer describes him, “he is the greatest security system you could ever install”. Leroy has one other dislike and that is sheep, which is slightly ironic considering he lives on a sheep farm.

With an exceptional career to date including being part of team Emcee Apparel in the Australian Jumping Teams League to finish in third position and winning a Mini Prix class at the Australian Showjumping Championships, Leroy is one to watch in this year’s Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix at the Classic.

Jennifer and Leroy are very grateful for the ongoing support from sponsors Furneys Stockfeeds Orange, Horseland and Jamie Smith at Antares Australia.

Leroy, whilst your first impression on Jennifer as a two year old may not have gone quite to plan, we know you are very deeply loved for the exceptionally kind, talented horse you are today. It has been a pleasure to learn more about your great partnership with your human and we cannot wait to see you give it your all in the Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix!
