LIZETTA

THIS STORY IS ABOUT a horse whose connection with her rider is so special it almost brought us to tears!

Here is the story of the beautiful, graceful, much loved 𝐋𝐈𝐙𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐀 or 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 as she is known at home

Sue Coman is the rider of 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞, a beautiful bay mare, born in 2009 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 stands tall at 16.2 hands and boasts an impressive lineage—her sire being Lord Capitano out of Cardento and her dam, Rozetta. 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 was bred by Renee Bittar.

So having Cardento in 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞's lineage is a great opprtunity to turn our breeding focus there and his finder story is what we will focus on.

Many of you will know a lot about Cardento we all know he is undoubtedly one of the greatest stallions of the last century.

Cardento is found in thousands of pedigrees and is sire and grandsire to numerous offspring jumping at the top of the sport to this day. Cardento sadly passed away in 2019 however his legacy lives on in many lineages. Weare just going to tell a very small snippet of how he came to be partnered with Peter Eriksson.

Cardento was a young stallion at the VDL stud who were in expansion phase in several countries. One of those countries was Sweden. Joans Persson suggested VDL work with the state stud flyinge as he believed at the time they had one the worlds best riders in Peter Eriksson. Flyinge at the time needed stallions but had zero cash so a deal was done on persuasion as Peter Eriksson could ride, train and compete the stallions.

So off to VDL did the committee drive and there they met an obnoxious immature and skinny and grey (not popular at the time)stallion. After Peter rode the Stallion and had so much enthusiasm the committee agreed to work with him.

Cardento passed the SWB stallion test in February and was then put into training under Peter. Many breeders questioned what flyinge had brought home – ‘an effing coat hanger’ – as he certainly did not look much as a young horse.

Peter Eriksson said once “Without the slightest doubt, Cardento is my once-in-a-lifetime horse, the most successful, the horse I’ve had the longest, and the one that has meant the most to me. He has given me my best moments on the course and my worst.”

The now legendary and crucial test ride of Cardento is etched in Peter Eriksson’s memory.

Cardento was in demand in breeding immediately, even though he still looked a little undeveloped as a five-year-old. He did well in young-horse classes the first two years, but it was only when he was seven and the obstacles became higher that he started to be exceptional.

All we can say is thankfully this team of people saw Cardento’s potential because without some of the backstory we would not have the beautiful 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 today!

Sue and 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞's story began six years ago when 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 originally came into Sue's life for Jamie, to ride. In a twist of fate, a swap was made, and Sue found herself forging an unbreakable bond with this remarkable mare. The partnership has been a journey filled with love, dedication, and countless hours in the saddle.

𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 loves windsucking albeit the team at Goodspell Park can mange it well. It is Lizetta's first love. So you ask does she have dislikes? Yes, Sue tells us 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 would likely be most happy being an only pony as her biggest dislike is other horses. She knows she is the Queen. No one else matters in her world!

Reflecting on their time together, Sue shares, "I cherish every moment riding and competing with 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞. She's a genuine mare. 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 gives her all, everytime.

Beyond the arena, 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 holds a special place in Sue's heart, offering her the opportunity to pursue her passion.

Sue concludes, "𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞 allows me to do what I love. She's not just a horse; she's a cherished companion, and a source of boundless joy."

As with any equestrian journey, support plays a pivotal role. Sue takes a moment to express her gratitude, saying, "I would love to thank our sponsors, Chase Equestrian and Alberto Fasciani Australia @Saddleworld Shepparton & Bendigo Pryde's EasiFeed And, of course, a heartfelt thank you to Jamie for being an integral part of our team."

Lizzie we love the partnership you have formed with Sue, and we look forward to watching your magic with your rider in the Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix!
