LIZETTA

This is the story of Lizetta, or “Lizzie” as she’s lovingly known—a mare whose connection with rider Sue Coman is nothing short of extraordinary. Their partnership, built on love, dedication, and trust, is so special it’s brought us to tears more than once.

Lizzie, a stunning 16.2hh bay mare born in 2009. Bred by Renee Bittar, Lizzie came to the Comans approx seven years ago, initially intended for Jamie to ride. But a twist of fate led Sue to form an unbreakable partnership with this remarkable mare. Lizzie quickly became more than just a competition horse—she became Sue’s most cherished companion

Lizie.boasts an impressive lineage her sire  Cardento we all know he is undoubtedly one of the greatest stallions of the last century.

Cardento is found in thousands of pedigrees and is sire and grandsire to numerous offspring jumping at the top of the sport to this day. Cardento sadly passed away in 2019 however his legacy lives on in many lineages. Weare just going to tell a very small snippet of how he came to be partnered with Peter Eriksson.

Cardento was a young stallion at the VDL stud who were in expansion phase in several countries. One of those countries was Sweden. Joans Persson suggested VDL work with the state stud flyinge as he believed at the time they had one the worlds best riders in Peter Eriksson. Flyinge at the time needed stallions but had zero cash so a deal was done on persuasion as Peter Eriksson could ride, train and compete the stallions.

So off to VDL did the committee drive and there they met an obnoxious immature and skinny and grey (not popular at the time)stallion. After Peter rode the Stallion and had so much enthusiasm the committee agreed to work with him.

Originally dismissed as “an effing coat hanger” due to his immature and unimpressive appearance, Cardento’s destiny changed when Peter Eriksson saw his potential. Under Peter’s guidance, Cardento flourished, becoming a world-class champion whose legacy lives on in pedigrees across the globe. Without his story of resilience, there would be no Lizzie.

Lizzie’s bold personality makes her stand out. Windsucking may be her guilty pleasure, but she’s not a fan of other horses—she prefers to reign as queen of her world. Despite her quirks, Lizzie’s genuine spirit shines in everything she does. As Sue shares:

"Lizzie is authentic and gives her all every single time. She’s more than a horse—she’s my partner, my joy, and my reason to keep pursuing what I love."

Their journey together has been filled with hard work, countless hours in the saddle, and the kind of dedication that only a true horse-and-rider bond can bring. Together, they’ve achieved so much, and there’s no doubt they’ll continue to inspire in the future.

Sue extends her heartfelt gratitude to her sponsors—Chase Equestrian, Alberto Fasciani Australia, Saddleworld Shepparton & Bendigo, and Pryde's EasiFeed—and to Jamie for his unwavering support and partnership in this journey.

Lizzie, your partnership with Sue is nothing short of magic, and we cannot wait to see you both shine in the Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix. Here’s to celebrating this incredible journey and the bond that makes it so special.
